Using the Select Tool

In the 3D View, the Select Tool works in conjunction with the Select Elements and the Selection Scope options, to refine selections of objects.
  1. Click the Select Tool icon ( ) , and then click the Select Elements icon ( ).
    The Select Elements toolbar opens and displays relevant mode options for the Select Tool. Available options are:
    • Select single
    • Select by crossing line
    • Select by box corners
    • Replace current selection
    • Add to selection
    • Remove from selection
    For example,
  2. To quickly select a group of objects, you can select the Line mode icon ( ), then click a location on the iModel to begin drawing a line, and then click to set the endpoint of the line.

    All objects that are intersected by this line are selected.

  3. To quickly add a group of objects to the existing selection set, select the Add mode icon, then click a location on the iModel to begin drawing a line, and then click to set the endpoint of the line.

    All objects intersected by this line are added to the existing selection set.

  4. Click the and Mode options, and then click in the model twice using a left-right direction, drawing the corners of a rectangular range block.

    A new selection set which consists of all objects inside the boundaries of the range block, replaces the existing selection set.

Whenever a selection set is made, an additional group of Select tool icons appear. These allow you to further manipulate the selection set.

  1. Click Isolate Selected ( ).

    The display of all objects except the objects in the selection set is turned off.

The Status bar displays more tools that work in conjunction with the Select tool.

  1. Click Clear Hide/Isolate/Emphasize.

    The isolated view is cleared, and the view is redrawn. The un-displayed objects are again displayed.

  2. Select Scope > Top Assembly.

    This sets the "Selection Scope" which affects how objects are selected based on their hierarchy in the digital twin.

  3. Click the Mode options and , and then select an object.

    A new selection set which consists of all objects who are members of the top assembly the selected object is a member of, replaces the existing selection set.
